PROFESSIONAL TRIP SITTING

What Is Professional Trip Sitting?

Professional psychedelic sitting is a non-clinical, non-directive, presence-based support service.

During altered states, ordinary reference points can temporarily change. Thoughts may become unusually vivid. Emotions may intensify. Memories or symbolic material may surface. Time, identity, bodily sensations, or a person's ordinary sense of certainty may shift.

The sitter provides a grounded relational reference point throughout this process.

“A steady human presence for extraordinary states of consciousness.”

Professional sitting creates a reliable human reference point when ordinary reference points may shift. I remain calm, attentive, humble, and available, protecting room for the client's own process while providing the practical support that helps the environment stay steady.

A good sitter knows when quiet is useful, when grounding is useful, and when the agreed safety plan needs to take priority.

THE ENVIRONMENT

A calm room gives the process room to unfold.

A sitter helps protect privacy, reduce interruption, maintain comfort, and keep practical needs from becoming another burden during an unfamiliar experience.

WHAT A SITTER DOES

Grounded, practical, non-directive support.

The value is concrete: your preparation is taken seriously, your space is protected, you have sober support through the experience, and you have three sessions afterward to work with what matters.

  • maintains sober presence
  • remains attentive throughout the agreed sitting period
  • protects privacy and reduces unnecessary interruption
  • helps maintain a calm environment
  • monitors the overall situation
  • supports practical comfort
  • provides water, blankets, tissues, or basic logistical assistance as appropriate
  • supports movement to the bathroom when appropriate
  • offers simple grounding or reassurance when needed
  • respects silence
  • listens without immediately analyzing
  • protects client autonomy
  • watches for significant changes requiring higher-level assistance
  • follows the pre-established safety and emergency plan
  • remains steady when emotions become intense
  • allows the client to decide what their experience means

ROLE CLARITY

A sitter’s role is distinct—and useful.

Sitter

Presence, safety, witnessing, comfort, containment, non-directive support.

Facilitator

May actively guide a psychedelic session or participate in medicine administration depending on setting and jurisdiction.

Therapist

Provides licensed clinical assessment and psychological treatment.

Integration Coach

Helps clients reflect, clarify, make decisions, establish goals, translate insight into action, and create accountability after the experience.

Stu's background in transformational and psychedelic integration coaching strengthens his ability to understand the broader arc of the process, while the sitting role itself remains clearly bounded and non-directive during the psychedelic experience.

THE ROLE

Trip sitting means you lead. I anchor.

A sitter provides presence, safety, witnessing, comfort, containment, and non-directive support through a client-led experience. To anchor, not to lead.
